I stopped by the Dallas Farmers Market this morning to pick up some JuHa Ranch eggs and the latest issue of Edible Dallas & Fort Worth. I always love checking out their section entitled “What’s Fresh?” so I can be sure to pick up a few seasonal items as well. Here’s just a portion of the March-April list.whats freshThis time of year, we’ve still got a few of the winter favorites like greens and root veggies lingering with a few signs of spring coming into the fold via fava beans and spring onions. Today I picked up some kale, which I pretty much always have on hand for smoothies, salads, and sauteing, and some Brussels sprouts to roast in the oven with a little bit of garlic and shallots.
kale and brusselsIf you’re starting to crave some lighter meals with spring right around the corner, lighten things up with some citrus and herbs or take those greens and make a salad. With the longer winter we’ve been experiencing this year, it’s still a bit too early for asparagus and peaches, but you can bet I’ll be the first one there when they emerge! In the meantime, I’ll savor the last of winter’s bounty.
